Summer Fun at Sheep River Library

News Date:
04 July 2012

School’s out for summer! You can all remember back to those glorious first days of summer break when you would wake up in the morning and realize that you didn’t have to leap out of bed to make a dash for the school bus. Oh, the feeling of sheer joy! However as the days progressed boredom seeped in and it was not too long before you were wailing to your parents, “There’s nothing to do!” If you find yourself in this position with your children this summer, check out the programs we have running at the library. Our summer reading program “Imagine” starts the 2nd Wednesday of July and has sessions for 3-5 (10-11am) and 6-10 year olds (1-2pm). Sign up now to ensure your spot. Apart from the reading program we have Family Movie Nights at 6pm on Thursdays. For a list of what we will be screening, check out our website @ www.sheepriverlibrary.ca or call the library @ 403-933-3278. Popcorn will be available. On Fridays from 1-3pm we have craft and activity days for kids and families. Just some of the activities we will be offering include quilling, collage journals, boogie monsters and making stuff with “Little Bits” –fun, magnetic electronic modules. For Teens we are offering a Summer Teen Book Club which will look at books and their film adaptations. Participants will read a book over the week and then meet up to watch the movie and discuss them both. First meeting will be Tuesday, July 10 @ 5:30pm and will continue for 7 weeks. Teens are also invited to “Let’s chalk about it!” where you can cover the library parking lot with your thoughts on a wide variety of topics in chalk. Your comments can remain anonymous and will only last until the next rainstorm! For more info on any of these activities, check the website or call the library and speak to Jess, our summer program co-ordinator.
We have a new artist displaying in our gallery room in July.Maureen Janssens is a Canadian artist who resides in the foothills of Southern Alberta.  Her subject matter reflects the majestic land that surrounds her.  With brush in hand she playfully instills vibrant color and dynamic composition creating her own symbolic dreamscape.  Her wildly dancing skies overseeing freshly etched mountains, forests and rivers manifest lively landscape paintings thick with texture and character. Maureen’s show will be on display until July 23.
