This fall we have many new programs on offer at the library. Sewing for Beginners I & II with Janet Balance begins October 23. Participants in this class will learn the basics of sewing by making a pair of pajamas. We also have Take control of Your Health (September 18), a mini workshop that will provide you with a small sample of tools that can be used to help you take control of your health. You can also Master the Art of Essay Writing. Although this class is geared to Senior High students, it will benefit anyone who has a lot of essay writing in their future. An Introduction to Simply Parenting (October 25) looks at the challenges and behavioural issues that stem from living a life that is too fast and too full. We are offering 3 new General Interest Classes this year: Perfect Pie Making with Sara Fay. This pie maker extraordinaire will share her secrets for perfect pastry and filling. Another class that will be a must for anyone gearing up for the holiday season will be Build Your Own Gingerbread House on December 1. Participants will use a basic kit and customize it to their heart’s delight. For history buffs we have Doug Elias sharing about the War of 1812, in particular the role the West played in this conflict. You will learn about the heroes and anti-heroes of that far off time and place.
If you wish to upgrade your computer skills then you need to look no further than the library. Throughout the fall we have a series of classes that will take you from the basics of turning your computer on to Word and PowerPoint 2010, Downloading e-books, Social Media and using Tracpac (the library catalogue on-line).
For the movie lovers among us we now have Movie Mondays. That means we always have a film screening on Mondays. On the first Monday of the month we have Classic Movie Matinees at 2:00pm. The second Monday of the month at 7:00pm we have DocProbe (documentary screenings). The 3rd Monday evening is the Dog Tooth Mountain Film Group and the 4th Monday evening is Book to Film.
For a full listing of all courses offered in the fall either pick up a copy of the library brochure, available August 11th or the Foothills Continuing Education Booklet or explore our website: www.sheepriverlibrary.ca
